Why you should consider investing in employee wellbeing

High levels of employee happiness make business sense as well as creating a good working environment, because what really makes success happen is the people behind the sales, profits and customer experience.

As hybrid working becomes the norm, it’s important to look at ways to unite those employees who may continue to work remotely – or in some cases have not yet met their (not so new) colleagues face-to-face!

Wellbeing strategies aren’t new, but often they are quite generic. Not everything appeals to everyone – particularly in physical health where inclusive wellbeing interventions can be hard to find. That’s why buddyboost isn’t about measuring how far or how fast because we know that would be likely to exclude the employees who most need the benefit of being active. Inclusive wellbeing policies are important for uniting the whole team, giving everyone a common interest and creating that much needed sense of community & camaraderie.

There are other serious business considerations too; did you know that in 2019/2020 17.9 million working days were lost to stress, anxiety or depression. (labour force survey LFS). The LFS survey also reports that the number of workers with stress, anxiety or depression was at an all-time high, and this survey doesn’t include the majority of the pandemic and lockdowns. In 2019/20 stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 51% of all work-related ill health cases and 55% of all working days lost due to work-related ill health.

Employee mental health is fast becoming a key consideration for companies. But, it can be hard to know where to start – not everyone is open to talking about mental health or knows how to. However, physical exercise is proven to improve mental health and the buddyboost app makes a strong link between physical & mental health, whilst also offering an inclusive solution to appeal to everyone. It really can make people healthier and happier.
